RE: On the road, 703 nights and counting!

Sleepy, Good to see you out and about again! 700 plus..GREAT!! I'll never catch up. The 1161 is doing fine and we are off again soon after the 3 day weekend and folks are back...a little more calm out there. My new wheels arrived for the dually and I am anxious to get the new tires, but there are pressing matters to attned to first. Found an aluminum Rigid inflatabel boat for $100, had to get a trailer to haul it home. The tubes may beyond repair and if the whole thing is a bust the aluminum is worth 100. And then I'd have a trailer. The other boat is progressing nicely, hope to have it in the back yard soon and start my work after getting it back from the fiberglass guy.
Keep us posted on your adventures...done anything new to your camper? Capt PJ

RE: Banks Performance Package

One of the simplest and usually the most cost effective is to get COLD air to the intake. Don't be fooled by the big filters in the engine compartment and the so called heat dams...get the air from up front or down away from the engine compartment...kits are available but many build there own from parts available at Home Depot. For Dodge, others out there!
The cold air is denser and better for combustion and thusly power, granted you get better perfomance from and open filter, but the filter may not meet OEM specs and void warrwanty, but COLD air never hurts anyone. Why do you think they have fans blowing cold air into engine rooms and ducts to the intakes directly to outside decks? Capt PJ

George's Woodwork

A few weeks ago, I ordered some racks form George in Spokane. I sent him some drawings and a color matcher and he has come thru with a GREAT product that fits my needs perfectly. He built a custom Spice rack and Magazine rack, plus I ordered a pencil holder, he sent along his signature key holder which I added some more hooks.
He did a fine job as you can see. THX George! Capt PJ

RE: Happi Jacks?? Tell me all about them, please

I have Atwoods on my Lances. My 1997 had electirc and the 2005 has electric with remote...I LIKE THAT!!! The Atwoods worked wonderfully all those years and took some bad abuse every now and agin when i did something silly like backing in to far and sliding them along...OPPS!!! the sprung back, but forever a little off at the bottom as the bumper bracket got bent a tad..still worked just fine! Had that camper 11 years. @005 they work great witht the remote yet it is a bit touchy for final touch up levelinging...I am getting the hang of it! GET ATWOODS! Capt PJ

RE: Self Contained Solar /Water TC on MSN Video

With the way the technology of panels and small windgens...it just does not seem practical and add in the expense, does it pan out...I don't think so! I think it is a play to look Green. Is Lance involved, does anyone know? A better solution is to employ the technology used by EARTHROAMER. Some of that could be used in our units...yes cost would be a bit higher but it is there. Also There is a HEAT as you use (ON DEMAND) Hot water heater that will fit intot he 6gal space used now...THAT should be an option if not standard on new TC's from all makers. Eliminates the reheat process and waiting 30 mins when starting cold...more effective unit in my thinking. I think when I redesign the 1161 sink/counter area. I'll install one. Even thinking about the diesel stove too. Capt PJ

RE: Dangerous Situation AIRBAG Malfunction

On my 94 Dodge 2500, my brackets bent and I caught it, took them to a buddy who welded a brace in place to beef up the thinnish bracket...no issues after that. Good to hear about the bolts. Capt PJ

RE: A few obsevations on new Lances

To help with the shower feeling smalli got a new flexible shower rail and made the sweep bigger so now the curtain doesn't stick to me and put sew on lead at the buttom to keep it in the showerpan...it works well. Yesterday I added a splash guard at the corner to keep water from going out to the toilet step. I also removed the rug and replaced with plastic that I heated and bent to fit and the caulked everything everywhere in the bathroom...now the whole bath could be a wet shower if it happens. No more wet stuff...easy to clean up and the bath may doeas a great job. I'd post images, but the system doesn't see my storage place, so I need to change places I guess. IF you email me I can send some images that way...give me an outside email address so I know it will work. Capt PJ

RE: A few obsevations on new Lances

jmtandem and steve, I was only writing to raise questions and make a statement to provide room for thought! Nothing negative here...YOU will know when I get into it or upset or ready to do battle...not here! I just like to stir the pot to get discussion flowing and the juices.
I look at different campers all the time, trying to find ideas that work for me and do them to mu LANCE! I like the projects and making things better...When I got my first Lance I ordered it and had some things cahnged and wished I had done more at the time...but I didn't know what I needed to do. So I made mods myself.
Outfitter is one I have not had a close look at as I have never seen one stopped, so I could talk with the folks. HEY ! I tell ya there are some design items that LANCE does that I wondrer WHY!!! I am knocknig them. Like the silly slippery plastic sink cover that is always on the floor when you open the door...it is gone I made a real cutting board to cover the sink. Speaking of sinks...why isn't it SSteel instead of the fragile acrylic! HUMMM!!! Happy camping! Capt PJ

RE: Tires for 19.5's (Dually)

Steve..I suspect your are right...what I mean is that the wheels don't need any additional machining due to hub size...Dodge is bigger! Do you have any pics of your bumpers up close! Good looking red truck! Like your wheels, too! Capt PJ

RE: Tires for 19.5's (Dually)

I will be placing my order on the 15th for the MKW wheels. I checked some more and found a dealer distributor in Reno. The six alloy wheels for the Dodge will cost $2086 including the lugs and shipping to my door. Call Susan at 775 333 7467, she is a really helpful contact. GM and Ford wheels will be a bit less as they do not need an extra machine process to fit the Dodge hub centric routine. I am going with the GoodYear tires...found them locally about 20 miles from here at a really good price. I am getting the G647 steer M/S rated for the front and the G622 traction for the back. HERE I GO! Yes i will post pics when it is all done. Capt PJ

RE: Happi Jac Replacements

Why don't you think about changing to ATWOOD jacks...since 1997 I have had them on my campers and never an issue. Work well and I guess you could say I even abused them by doing things other than lifting camper off truck. Did it on sloped ground, stableized the camper when on the truck to the point of lifting the truck, forgot to undo the tiedowns, it worked! Theu just kept working. Put some dieletric grease on plugs after about 5 years the first time. JMHO Capt PJ
